Stove Top Brew Guide

Stove top (or Moka Pot) is a brewing method credited to  Italian engineer Alfonso Bialetti that brews coffee by passing boiling water pressurised by steam through ground coffee. The stovetop delivers an espresso-like brew with a strong body and intense flavour. Here is our favourite recipe for making stove top:

RECIPES:

4 CUP 6 CUP 10 CUP

Coffee:
12g

Grind:
medium

Water:
200ml

Coffee:
18g

Grind:
medium

Water:
300ml

Coffee:
32g

Grind:
medium

Water:
550ml

The brew ratio is 1:17.

HOW TO:

1.

Fill the base of the stovetop with hot filtered water. Fill to just under the pressure valve.

2.

Fill your brew basket with freshly ground coffee. Gently shake side to side to level the bed of coffee. Do not tamp the coffee.

3.

Place the brew basket into the bottom chamber and tightly screw in the top section.

4.

Place the stovetop onto the heat source.

5.

After a short period of time, the coffee will begin to fill the top chamber of the stovetop.

6.

Allow the coffee to fully percolate into the top chamber. You will notice a change in sound as the water level drops.

7.

Remove the stove top from the heat source (remembering to switch off the heat source), serve and enjoy.

TOP TIPS:

The grind should be a medium size. If too fine, the water will take longer to pass through the ground coffee and you might experience some bitterness in the cup.

If the coffee extraction takes too long (very slow percolation into the top chamber) or you experience bitterness in the cup, you might want to try grinding the coffee a bit coarser or using less coffee in the basket.

When it comes to coffee - fresh is best. Purchase fresh coffee beans from your local cafe or roastery, grinding as required using a hand or electric grinder.

CARE:

Clean after use.
Wash with hot water and dry.
